Artscape Sandbox, which hosted its first official event in September 2015, is the newest not-for-profit multidisciplinary performance and event space in Toronto’s Entertainment District. As a space it’s akin to a 6,000 square-foot blank canvas, inviting flexible creative possibility and personalization. Sandbox is available to rent for just about any purpose, from artistic performances and theatre productions to social gatherings and professional events. Run as a social enterprise, Sandbox operates with a sliding scale rental model that allows for a wide range of artists, community members, grassroots groups and small organizations to access to the space at significant savings.
Artscape Sandbox is an ideal venue for innovative large-scale artistic creation, exploration and innovation. To facilitate this, Artscape has introduced two special opportunities: the Artscape Sandbox Resident Teachers Initiative, which provides free one-day bookings and additional bookings at very low subsidized rates, plus marketing support; and the Artscape Sandbox Creation Initiative, which will enable professional artists to rent the space for as little as $1/day. These programs seek to contribute back to the arts community, in recognition of the phenomenal commitment and resources that artists bring to their projects.
Artscape Sandbox was developed with our partners at the City of Toronto and The Daniels Corporation, and thanks to the generous support of the Department of Canadian Heritage Canada Cultural Spaces Fund and a Section 37 agreement with the City of Toronto.
