Your Support Counts

Your donation helps create and sustain Artscape’s creative placemaking projects, programs and services, which benefit the lives of artists and the vibrancy of our communities.

Since its beginning in 1986, Artscape has become recognized as an international leader in creative placemaking, a practice that leverages the power of art, culture and creativity to catalyze change, growth and transformation in communities. Artscape achieves its mission through developing and managing 11 unique cultural facilities—including community cultural hubs, multi-purpose creative spaces and artist live/work projects—and delivering programs and services that create the conditions for artists to thrive. Your contribution will help:

  • Develop and manage multi-tenant real estate projects like Artscape Youngplace, Daniels Spectrum, Artscape Wychwood Barns and Artscape Launchpad, a major new centre for creative sector entrepreneurship planned for 2018
  • Deliver unique and accessible arts-based programming and community events to people of all ages in neighbourhoods across Toronto
  • Expand the field of creative placemaking through research, knowledge sharing and coaching the next generation of creative space innovators

Every day our spaces come alive with the ideas and passions of the 149 organizations and 2,600+ people who work and/or live within them. Forty-two public venues enable over 190,000 people to take part in exhibitions and performances annually. Thousands more participate in our programs, tenant-driven activities and city-wide events. Every year, we deliver significant benefits, including millions in economic savings to the community. For example:

  • $3.6 million in savings passed on to artists and organizations on commercial and residential occupancy costs in 2015
  • On average, 2015 rental rates for artists and not-for-profit organizations were 56% lower than rates for comparable commercial spaces in downtown and midtown Toronto
  • $788,000 in annual subsidies provide non-profit organizations and grassroots groups with sliding-scale accessible rates to Artscape event venue space for performances, exhibitions and special events in 2015

Current Special Projects

The Sidra Project, a collaboration between Artscape, the United Nations and 20 other partners, engaged more than 7,000 participants in Toronto and Ottawa in the fall of 2016. Its aim was to build empathy and support for refugees and their resettlement. A crowd-funding campaign has been launched to support the continuation of the project on Crowdrise. General information on The Sidra Project can be found at thesidraproject.ca.
