After a busy and exciting year of construction and preparation, our staff are finally settling into their new offices at the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre.
Faria and Kifle are probably the first people you’ll see when you walk into the building as they’ll be working out of the lobby box office during the busy opening months of the centre. Faria Hoque is the Programs & Events Coordinator and is responsible for coordinating arts, cultural and community events at the centre. She will also be developing and overseeing the new Mentorship Program. Feel free to ask her questions in English, French, Italian, Bengali and Hindi—she is fluent in all five languages! As Event & Sales Coordinator, Kifle Lissanu’s role will be to coordinate private and corporate events in the event spaces, from conferences and fundraisers to weddings and family celebrations. In addition to working full time, Kifle runs AfroSonic Entertainment, a company that showcases African talent through the presentation of concerts, parties, pageants and films.
Upstairs in the Artscape office, Managing Director Seema Jethalal oversees the day-to-day operations of the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre. Seema is committed to nurturing and cultivating Toronto's arts and culture scene, having worked for organizations like Manifesto Community Projects, ArtReach Toronto and Lord Cultural Resources.
Cindy Smith and Chris May are our Superintendents at the centre and will be keeping the building working well and clean. Cindy has had a diverse career working as a superintendent and property manager as well as a number of management and programming positions in the non-profit sector. For the last seven years, Chris has lovingly cared for the heritage building on Bathurst Street that houses the Randolph Academy and the Bathurst Street and Annex Theatres. He has also worked and volunteered extensively in the non-profit cultural sector in Toronto.
A familiar face around the neighbourhood, Farid Jalil is the most recent addition to the team as Outreach & Marketing Coordinator. He brings with him a rich community involvement background including two years’ experience as a Community Engagement Coordinator with Regent Park’s Christian Resource Centre coordinating and promoting projects such as Sunday in the Park, the Community Gardens Initiative and community food drives. His position at RPACC will be to liaise with the larger Regent Park community to weave community initiatives into the tapestry of arts programming at the centre.
Finally, everyone at Artscape would like to thank Judy Josefowicz, our patient and talented Project Manager who has worked tirelessly for over two years with our partners and the many trades to make the Regent Park Arts & Cultural Centre a stunning reality. We wish Judy every success in her next adventure when she leaves this fall!
